This book was soooo good! All my friends who had to read it said that it was so boring, but they said the same thing about Silas Marner, which is a book I liked. So my Dad convinced me to read The Hobbit, which wasn't very hard, since I read very fast( I finished this book in a day and a half), I am always looking for something to read. I read it three times in one week, I liked it so much. Now I'm reading The Fellowship of the Ring. So far, it's very good. I got it on Sunday; it's taking me a little longer because we had company that afternoon, and today, I had to finish watching The Two Towers. The characters in the book are a little different than in the movie. For instance, Aragorn was a strange looking guy, not handsome at all. In fact, just the opposite. And Frodo was in his fifties when he started his journey. And Legolas hasn't come in yet.*pout* I'm almost afraid of what they have to say about him. I love the LotR books!:) I still haven't read The Hobbit yet though.:/ But I intend to before the movie comes out.:)
I don't think the characters were too different from the movie(with the exception of Merry & Pippin of course, but let's give them a break on that one, I mean, they had to have some comic relief somewhere:). But to the best of my knowledge Peter Jackson tried his best to stay true to the books. Even to the extent of making sure they kept in the Christianity.
I haven't read The Hobbit. :/ I really want to, but I just haven't gotten around to it. When I first became an LOTR fan I didn't realize The Hobbit was part of Tolkien's LOTR series. lol =D So I started with FOTR and then TTT. I need to read ROTK and then I'll probably go back and read the Hobbit. :)

I am still reading FOTR. Even though I saw the movie, it's still very suspensful. It's very frustrating to me that I don't have enough time to read it. I need to ride my horse every day, and when I get back from my ride, we have to go into town. How frustrating. But you definitely read the Hobbit.
